Summer Work Reminders:Dear Parents,
What an exciting year we have had at Highlands Elementary School! While I’m sure that you have a wonderful summer planned for your entire family, it is my hope that you would encourage your child to set a few minutes aside each day to exercise their brain by reading, writing, and testing their math skills. If you missed the e-mail sent out to families announcing the K-4 Summer Work Program, please visit: http://campuses.fortbendisd.com/campuses/he, and download the various Math Calendars, Reading Activity Calendars, and listings of suggested book titles, to use over the summer months. Dedicating at least 30 minutes a day to reviewing math concepts, along with sustained reading, will prevent your child from losing the skills that he/she has learned throughout the school year. Since all math activities are to serve as a review, students are to complete the calendars for the grade level he/she was assigned to during this school year. Student participants are encouraged to keep up with all completed assignments by recording the various answers and activities listed on the Math and Reading Calendars in a notebook. Additionally, so that we can keep track of the various books students are reading, all are encouraged to write and submit at least (2) on-line book reviews by visiting: www.highlandslibrary.com. Over 100 book reviews were submitted last year so this summer, let’s see if we can reach 150! Note: Please be advised that students will continue to have access to the following computer based programs during the summer as well: Reflex Math (grades 1-5), Istation for Reading (grades 3-5), and Think Through Math (grades 3-5). All user names and passwords will remain active until mid-August. Don’t forget… Summer work notebook should be brought to school on Monday, August 25th. Therefore, please remember to help your child with labeling all completed work with their first and last name, the date each activity was completed, and remind them to write in their neatest handwriting. As an added bonus, in recognition of the students’ hard work and their commitment to continuous learning, during the week of August 25th, prizes and incentives will be awarded to all who participate in this summer work program! Thanks to all for another, amazing school year! Have a great summer and I will see you in August! Sincerely, Dr. Latecha Bogle |
